Bureau Veritas Embraces Advanced Air Mobility: A Future of Collaboration and Innovation

Nov. 8 2024

Bureau Veritas is at the forefront of Advanced Air Mobility (AMM) collaborating in development of the diverse blooming and future innovative solutions that will revolutionize air transport.

Bureau Veritas Aeronautics’ Division recently made its mark at the International Civil Aviation Organization’s First Advanced Air Mobility Symposium (AAM 2024), held from September 9 to 12 in Montréal, Québec.

This landmark event, themed “Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) Global Harmonization and Interoperability: Challenges and Opportunities,” was unparalleled in ICAO's history, not only due to the sheer number of participants but also for the depth of discussions and the significance of the moment we find ourselves in within the aviation industry. The breadth of information exchanged through keynotes, panels, and workshops underscored the multidisciplinary and multifaceted character of AAM.

AAM is not just about technological advancements; rather, it represents a broader societal evolution. The discussions highlighted a change in paradigm where AAM transitions from being solely an aviation topic to one that encompasses societal implications.

The sector’s diversity means AAM could range from intercity transport solutions to small devices that carry parcels or even information itself. While the transportation of parcels is already mature, with millions of operational hours logged, other applications, particularly those focused on information transmission, are still nascent but hold great potential.

As we stand at the threshold of societal change, it is evident that we are entering a phase ripe for exponential development, fueled by the latest innovations.

At Bureau Veritas, we recognize the varying levels of regulatory and strategic development across different regions. We position ourselves at the forefront of AAM, engaging with both early adopters and those who are yet to embrace this innovation.

Our involvement as advisors to the ICAO Advanced Air Mobility Study Group established following the 41st Session of the ICAO Assembly underscores our commitment to contributing meaningfully to the creation of the AAM ecosystem.

“We are taking action NOW. By actively participating in strategic groups, study teams, and research initiatives, we aim to shape the conversation around AAM and influence its evolution.” says Dunia Abboud.

As a business-to-business-to-society company, we prioritize societal acceptance, sustainability, and of course, safety, having confidence in that our contributions can help create a sector that aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

AAM represents the future of aviation—a dynamic ecosystem requiring input from all facets of society to thrive. This article serves as an open invitation to the community to collaborate and contribute. By working together, we can pave the way for a bright future in this sector. The message is clear: if we all contribute positively, the potential for AAM is limitless.
