Bureau Veritas' expert supports Thailand on hot air balloon operations under the EU-SEA Aviation Partnership Project

Feb. 7 2023

Under the frame of the EU-SEA (South-East Asia) Aviation Partnership Project, the Bureau Veritas expert, Matthias Borgmeier, provided advice, support, and recommendations to support the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) in deciding how to deal with commercial balloon operators in the future and how to address related issues and tasks.

The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), which provided a budget for the assignment project, identified the following as its primary objectives:
 - to develop the balloon operations regulations and the regulatory oversight system, including related manuals, guidelines, forms, and checklists
- to provide support and advise for the preparation, transition, and compliance with the standards of balloon operations regulation.
- to provide training for CAAT inspectorate staff with practical on-the-job training to comprehend the new regulatory framework, processes, and procedures.
- to provide support and advise on stakeholder engagement and workshops for Thai balloon operators.
- to ensure that appropriate regulatory control for balloon operations in Thailand is exercised in a safe manner.

Bureau Veritas and its experts were delighted to work and collaborate with the CAAT in the development of balloon operations regulations as well as the regulatory oversight system to regulate the commercial balloon operators and general aviation balloon operations in Thailand.
