Request to Civil Aviation Authorities: Survey on Drone Risk Assessment Methodologies

Dec. 17 2025

In partnership with Flight Safety Foundation

As Advanced Air Mobility  (AAM) regulation is taking shape, the aviation industry is actively involved to improve risk management through various working groups, aiming to harmonize global best practices

BUREAU VERITAS AT THE HEART OF AAM STANDARDIZATION

As a member of the Flight Safety Foundation (FSF), Bureau Veritas plays an active role in establishing global standards for AAM  through the "Advanced Aviation Advisory Committee."

ABOUT THE FLIGHT SAFETY FOUNDATION

The Flight Safety Foundation is an international non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide impartial, independent, expert safety guidance and resources for the aviation industry since 1945.

RECOGNIZED EXPERTISE IN AAM

Dunia Abboud, Bureau Veritas' expert in Advanced Air Mobility and co-chair of FSF’s Advanced Aviation Advisory Committee since 2025, had has the honor of participating in one of the working groups dedicated to a comparative review of risk assessment methodologies currently used in advanced and uncrewed aviation.

WORKING GROUP OBJECTIVES

This working group examines how approaches such as

  • SORA
  • BARS
  • other national or regional frameworks

address ground and air-risk, assurance levels, mitigations, and evidence requirements.
The primary objective is to identify areas of convergence and potential pathways towards global standards harmonization.

CALL FOR PARTICIPATION

To support this analysis a survey has been launched targeting civil aviation authorities involved in UAS oversight and emerging AAM operations.

“We invite input from authorities, as it is essential to ensure the review reflects operational realities, regulatory constraints, and implementation experience. Thank you in advance for your contribution and for sharing within your networks.”
